The annual football competition organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation – Qatar (NIDO-Qatar) in honour of the late Ambassador Abdullahi Wase commenced on Friday, 13th September 2024, at Cambridge International School, Nuaija, Doha, Qatar. This event, held in memory of the esteemed ambassador, brought together the Nigerian community in Qatar for a day of spirited competition and camaraderie.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was graced by the family members of the late Ambassador Abdullahi Wase, officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar, and a representative from the Qatar Ministry of Labour. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the lasting impact of Ambassador Wase’s contributions to the Nigerian community in Qatar.
Match Results
The first day of the competition saw some thrilling matches with the following results:
- Oasis FC 1:0 Ohangwa FC: A closely contested match where Oasis FC managed to secure a narrow victory.
- Doha Rangers FC 1:5 Ona FC: Ona FC dominated the game, showcasing their superior skills and teamwork.
- Ainkhaled FC 0:0 United FC: Both teams displayed strong defensive strategies, resulting in a goalless draw.
- Swag FC 2:1 Udiezagu FC: Swag FC emerged victorious in a tightly-fought match.
